Stage Lighting Common Light Positions: Detailed Explanation of Each Position

2025-07-09

Stage lighting undoubtedly plays a crucial role in enhancing the audience's viewing experience. Common stage lighting positions, while seemingly simple, can produce remarkable effects. However, effective coordination of these positions with the performance requires a deeper understanding of each one.

Front Light

Located above the audience in the auditorium, outside the main stage curtain. Front light illuminates the performers' faces from the front.

It provides overall brightness, eliminates potential "dead spots" in the visual field, and allows for adjustment of light ratios, increasing or decreasing contrast for balance and preventing underexposure.

However, without coordination with other lighting positions, it lacks brightness variation and three-dimensionality.

Therefore, front light serves only as basic illumination and sets the basic tone. It does not play a primary role on stage, nor does it serve as the main light or a tool for shaping character.
